Energy Breakfast

Ocean Renewable Energy Coalition was present at the Politico-Pro Energy Breakfast Briefing. The event featured Dan Berman, Robin Bravender and Darren Goode of the Pro energy team in conversation with Bob Simon and McKie Campbell. The meeting also included Aubrey McClendon of the Chesapeake Energy Corporation.

The meeting offered insight from Bob Simon, the Democratic Staff Director for the Senate Energy and Natural Recourses Committee. Bob stressed the importance of getting legislation passed into law over political games and quarrel. Moreover Bob stressed the need for the U.S. to seek new, clean, renewable and sustainable energy. Representing the Republican Party was McKie Campbell; the Republican Staff Director for the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. McKie spoke about the necessity of energy conservation and the need to decrease our oil usage. But also alluded to the fact that we are not going to get off oil for a while so an increase in drilling for oil might be a necessity. For being opposing party members in the same committee both Bob and Mckie highlighted the same points. That the need for new energy is a necessity for our future and more attention needs focused on the issue of renewable energy. In addition the two wanted to put aside political games for new energy legislation to be put into law.

In addition to the congressional staffers, the Chesapeake Energy Corporation’s CEO Aubrey McClendon was present and spoke about natural gas as a form of renewable energy. McClendon yielded any questions about the severe consequences from hydraulic fracturing and insisted that natural gas can be the way of the future.

OREC will continue to be present at various energy events, conferences and committee meetings to insure that MHK gets the consideration it deserves.
